Growing Season in Karridale

11|01|2024

Flourishing growth in the lead up to harvest necessitates the diligent efforts of our dedicated vineyard team. Under the leadership of Idée Fixe Vineyard Manager, Tristan Moore, our team has been meticulously tending to canopies and multi-species cover crops, ensuring optimal soil health and minimising disease pressure throughout the ripening phase.

The growing season is one of the busiest and most technical times of the year. Since the onset of Spring, the pace of activities in the vineyard has steadily intensified. This season brought slightly warmer weather with minimal rainfall, contributing to favourable conditions that have graced our Karridale vineyard. The moderating south-east trade winds from the Southern Ocean, coupled with effective canopy management, has successfully minimized disease pressure.

Canopies are flourishing and healthy following the arrival of warmer days which have been ideal to finish off canopy growth. With verasion in our Chardonnay clones now complete vineyard and winemaking teams are working towards making the first pick call. Fruit samples are being scrutinised more intensely as the berries undergo a shift in their concentration of sugar and acidity, signalling the moment in which individual rows and plots will be harvested.

The sweet aroma of anticipation fills the air as we prepare for the forthcoming harvest. Stay tuned as we bring you live updates from Vintage 2024 in Karridale.
